Teachers. They hold the future in their hands. They give morals, values, and academic skills to our youth. I want to make an impact on our future. What better way is there to do that than becoming a teacher? My goal of becoming a teacher started back in the sixth grade. I would come in to teacher’s classrooms and tutor kids in lower grades during my study hall hours. I helped in classrooms from about first grade to fourth including special education classrooms. I would pretend to play “classroom” with my little brother when I was younger. I would set up my own pretend classroom and I would get out my old books and “teach” him. I have had this dream for a very long time and I plan to reach this goal of becoming an educator. I joined clubs where I had an opportunity to take leadership roles and responsibilities. I became a kid’s yoga teacher at the YMCA. I truly wanted the experience of what it would be like to teach youth. I am currently enrolled at Southwestern Illinois College majoring in Elementary Education. I am taking classes that will transfer to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) so I can transfer to that location when I finish my associates. While at SIUE I will also work towards my endorsement in Art Education, another passion of mine. I have been working two jobs to afford my education and I am determined to reach the goals I set for myself.
