Novels tell a great deal about a person. Instead of perusing the pages of The Hunger Games series, typical fan fiction, I enticingly flip through books by the titles of In Defense of Food, by Michael Pollan, Eat To Live, by Joel Fuhrman, The Pharmeceutical Myth, by Gerald Roliz, and the book I am currently absorbed in, The Ominvore’s Dilemma, another Pollan favorite. Evidently, my passion lies in the realm of food and nutrition. As a young lady amidst a large pool of opportunity, my heart lies in the hopes of nourishing the world through nutrition and education. My enthusiasm for health sparked in my small town of Nevada City. I was raised where much of the population lived alternative lifestyles with a mindfulness for environmental geniality and whole food consumption for the benefit of holistic healing. Senior year, when I took my first Intro to Nutrition class at the junior college, triggered my exploration of the educational aspect of nutrition. I am now diving into sophomore year at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo where I plan to graduate with a B.S. in Nutrition. The future beyond Cal Poly is a pale hue of indecision with a tinge of curiosity in taking a year long dietetic internship to become a Registered Dietition or obtaining a doctorate in Naturophatic Medicine. I aim to reverse disease and improve quality of life through whole foods. I concur with Roliz that “Letting food be your medicine is the answer for perfect health.”
