Hopefully, within months that I have graduated and obtained a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering, I will be working in the design sector in a well-known contractor company. Civil engineers are the noblest in the engineering spectrum. Without them, there will be no civilization, hence the title civil. During my 2013 internship career at my City’s engineering department, I designed new ramps on the AutoCAD software to replaced the obsolete and non-regulatory ramps. Recently, I have driven by one of the locations and saw that my design work has been put in place, and transformed a computer drawing into reality. In that moment, I felt not only satisfaction, but success that I made a change to my local community by offering the civilians a safer crosswalk ramp.
Starting off as a freshman in college, I have already accepted to two programs that will make my career successful at Cal Poly. These programs offer academic advising and tutoring services to help me, a first-generation, low-income student, to excel during the years at the school. Moreover, they also provide networking opportunities with different firms that are seeking for student interns. With experience already in a civil engineering internship, I believe I am one step ahead of other students, which will make me a selective candidate for the future internship opportunities. From having access to academic and career advising, and networking opportunities, my experiences will slowly turn my dream into reality.
