There I was sitting on a bench with lemurs, they were so close I could reach out my hand and touch them. I smiled and the man I had given my camera snapped my picture so I could remember this wonderful moment for years to come. I still couldn’t believe that I was at the world’s seventh largest zoo in Prague, Czech Republic. Not only did I get the opportunity to live in Prague for a month through a CIEE C1 Leadership Academy, but I also learned many important life lessons, and, most importantly, I learned who I was and my full potential.
Figuring out what I love and what I want to do with the rest of my life has never been an easy task. Just like every other kindergartener, I had big dreams for my future. Throughout elementary, junior high, and high school, those dreams constantly changed. One thing I’ve realized, though, is that traveling is one of my main passions; not for the vacation aspect, but to learn about different cultures, environments, and people. I constantly think back to the trip my family took several years back to visit and deliver humanitarian packages to orphanages to Vietnam and Cambodia. Not many other experiences in my life can compare to those small and simple, yet impactful moments when I got to see the pure joy that radiated from the orphans.
My goal is to assist in humanitarian aid throughout the world. I want to change lives.
