If I could earn a living doing what I love, it would have to be something to do with sharks. They are so important to the marine environment but so very misunderstood. Because they are feared and hated, their numbers are dwindling. I would love to study sharks, to work on conservation efforts and breeding programs to keep shark populations from disappearing altogether. I would love to turn the focus of Shark Week away from people surviving shark attacks, which encourages that hatred and fear, to informative shows where people can learn about these animals and how majestic they are. I think that people fear what they do not know, and I want everyone to know that though they are dangerous (and what large predator is not?), sharks are very important. They keep secondary predator populations from exploding and wiping out food sources, and they ensure the survival of only the fittest of their prey animals. If I could work with these sharks and also to educate the world as to their importance, I feel like I would make the world a little bit better of a place for myself, my husband, and my future children.
