I am an architecture student and if I am able to do what I love most I would start planning for a sustainable future today. The population growth of this planet is spinning wildly out of control. I would like to design and build sustainable environments so that even the poorest of families do not have to go without their basic needs in the uncertain future ahead. Every family deserves to have clean running water, a roof over their head, food, and power to help them endure the more extreme seasonal conditions. This is more than a possibility and most of it can be achieved through recycling and smart fore thought. I live in the desert of Phoenix, Arizona. Here we can build low budget housing by using haybales or old tires for wall insulation. Also, power can be achieved through solar technology which is becoming more cost effective every day. One of the leading expenses is storage batteries and regulators and both these products can be recycled and repurposed for this need. Clean water can be supplied by recovering our depleting environment. If certain plants are planted along a natural free flowing canal they can naturally detoxify the water. Arizona, like any region, has plants that can survive and provide nourishment without needing to terraform. Here we have a climate ideal for citrus trees. In a frightening future with the depletion of fossil fuels on the horizon it is important to start living smarter today to save civilization tomorrow.
