My name is Anna Wharmby and plan on being a nurse. I aspire to take care of those who can
not take care of themselves. I do not have a job, but I do help take care of my grandma and
grandpa. My grandpa has Alzheimers, and was put in a nursing home in May of 2013. The
nursing homes care is poor and understaffed. I one day would like to open a nursing home for
those specifically with Alzheimers. After graduating with my Bachelors Degree in Nursing, I
plan to move to North Carolina. I would like to, (within the next 15 years,) open my own nursing
home. I want families to feel secure in leaving their loved ones. My family often feels like the
nursing home “drugs” my grandpa so he can not get up and roam around. Alzheimers is a terrible
disease in which kills your memory. It has to be taken one day at a time.
Some days my grandpa can remember everbody’s name, and other days, he can not keep his
eyes open or believes he rode his bike to get to the nursing home. My grandpa, and other
patients, often become violent, and I plan on having plenty of staff to deal with problems like
this. I would not use Narcotics, and would have a cleaning staff large enough to clean every
patients room at least once a day. I love taking care of the elderly and hearing all of their
interesting lives. The elderly are the most precious gems and we can learn so much from them!
Helping people is my passion, I could not imagine doing anything else!
