Being able to make a living doing what you love is truly a dream to strive towards. When I think of what I want to do with my life, it would be to counsel and guide children who have been physically, verbally, or sexually abused. As a child sexual abuse survivor, I have experienced both the hopelessness of the situation as well as the ability to overcome an obstacle with a sense of accomplishment. After completing my therapy, I knew that I wanted to pay forward the gift that was given to me. I was able to embrace my life and not let the abuse negatively affect my life but to make me a stronger individual. One of the first things my therapist said was “A victim is someone who either dies or struggles from something and a survivor is someone who prospers from hardships. You will be a survivor because you are strong and we will get through this together.” At that moment, I knew things were going to get better and I want to provide children who have experienced similar situations, the hope and guidance that they so desperately need. Helping the children will in turn, make them individuals with confidence and perseverance that will help the world become a better place. I am working on getting a degree in this field and after graduating, I am planning on getting a job counseling children. After gaining a few years of experience, I want to open my own practice.
