More than anything I would love to be a sports journalist who covers the National Basketball Association. I want to write for a major sports news corporation such as ESPN and eventually become a senior basketball writer for the company. Someone who encompasses what I want to be is current sports journalist J.A. Adande. Not only does he contribute great pieces of literature for ESPN that provide an expert opinion on the sport, he is also consistently featured on television programs such as Sportscenter and Around the Horn. My dream is to have a career that strikes a resemblance to that of Adande.
As a journalist, I would want to write stories on those that do not get as much coverage as the sports’ biggest star. Of course I would want to be on the forefront of the biggest news, but I also want to shine a light on the professionals who do not get the necessary attention that they deserve, the fifteenth man so to speak. Someone who does not always play but is still a crucial cog in the machine that is a successful team.
By going to USC, I am enrolled in the top journalism school in the nation and I am learning from adjunct faculty that can prepare me for the grueling industry itself. I am also gaining experience through my school’s newspaper as a sports writer.
I am ready to challenge myself in order to make a difference and succeed in journalism.
