With todays economy and our parents worried faces, teenagers are extremely focused on reaching a point in life where they can “earn a living”. Other people are struggling to just “live”. My hope is that I can earn a living while working as an epidemiologist; fighting infectious diseases across the world that cause thousands of deaths per month. I believe the world can change, and these deaths can be prevented. I have been accepted into UC Davis and I plan on achieving a BS in Biotechnology there, before moving on to graduate school and finishing with a PhD in Epidemiology. From there, my goal is work with the Center for Disease Control, or for the World Health Organization combating pathogens that affect people across the globe. My plans have been reinforced by the current outbreak of Ebola. As the population of the earth creeps closer and closer to 8 billion, and more and more international travel occurs, infectious diseases are able to spread farther. I love learning, and I love working with people to improve the world.
