The satisfaction from having such a positive impact on someone’s life is the epitome of the person who my parents raised me to be. Ultimately, putting others before myself has played a significant role throughout my life and that is why I truly believe that nursing is the perfect career for me.
I spent a great deal of time this past semester caring for my ill grandfather, who unfortunately just passed away. Whenever I was home, I took care of him at the bedside as one of his primary caretakers. I prepared his meals, gave him his medication, ensured his hygiene and measured his blood-pressure and blood-glucose. I conversed with my grandfather for hours, talking about anything-and-everything, while also encouraging him through his recovery. In caring for him, I not only furthered my understanding of the nursing profession, but I also gained the immense sense of gratification that comes with serving another. Because of my grandfather, I will always strive to become an ideal nurse.
I believe that nursing will open up many doors for me to have an impact on changing the world. Since, poverty is inevitable, my dream is to travel the world and carry out pro bono work for the less fortunate individuals. My goal is to gain excellent leadership skills, join resourceful organizations and graduate with an outstanding GPA. After graduation, I plan on working for couple of years to accumulate funds so I can travel around the world to give back to those in need.
