My goal is to become a successful screenwriter. One who will be able to not only write good shows, but who will be capable of using her own writing to tackle today’s social issues in ways that people can learn from. I want my writing to be able to represent what’s really going out in the world, and not just cookie cut versions of things we are sometimes shown on television to dissuade us from the bigger issues. I want to make an impact; change the way we view things and people. Before I can do all that, I need to acquire the skill set that would better my writing. I plan on continuing to write out more of my own scripts, as a way to get practice and get my ideas down on paper. While I’m at UC Irvine, I also plan on taking all the classes offered that have to do with screenwriting so that I may be able to better my own writing and thus, be able to dole out a full script of my own. One that I could, hopefully, present to a professor or department head, either for revisions or submission to see it come to life. Should I be fortunate enough to get this far, I hope to take a major part in making sure that the message I would have written is successfully translated.
