Before starting college, I had a strong interest in media. Whether it is television, radio, or print, I am amazed by it’s ability to reach and influence a mass audience. When studying Sociology in college, it occurred to me that media is the most impressionable outlet towards children and young adults. More specifically, television. In this modern day and age, everyone has at least three sets of televisions in their household. Beyond this, I have noticed that more mothers are handing their infants small tablets to keep them preoccupied with children’s shows. If there’s anything more obvious, it is that children are our future. With as often as they are exposed to television, it is only right to utilize it to fill their minds with knowledge and progressive ideologies. My dream is to start my own network on television filled with knowledgeable content geared towards children and young adults. The network would create shows, films, and cartoons that would encourage our target audience to be open minded, confident, accepting, and brave. The most important feature of the network is to include concepts one wouldn’t normally see on television such as insight on more religions, interracial couples, homosexual couples, women and men breaking out of gender roles, and much more. The is important to showcase as it instills positivity in our target audience’s minds towards ideas that often have negativity associated with it. The power of media may change our minds, but it is children who will change our world.
