As I look to my left the sunlight cuts through the tree branches. My eyes scan the horizon and I spot an eagle on its perch. The canoe glides through the fog across the still waters. The eagle soars over the foggy lake and disappears into the distance. I gaze on and take in the moment of beauty and tranquility. Unfortunately many people have never experienced a moment like this.

Our lives are so consumed by the advancing technology around us and it is greatly impacting our youth. I am still young myself but I recall a time when internet was nonexistent, computers were the size of rooms, and Y2K was going to spell the end of the world. As smartphones, laptops, and tablets become the escape from reality for many kids. It is my desire to pull kids away from technology and take them out into raw nature. Giving kids the chance to see the pure beauty of the wilderness.

Growing up in rural Indiana has been a huge blessing to be surrounded by so much nature. My time at Indiana University I have studied Education, while enjoying the convenience of Lake Monroe and Brown County. While at IU I plan on enrolling in the Outdoor Adventure classes they offer. Upon graduation I plan to partake in the Wilderness Institute in Leadership Development to fine tune my skills and learn the skills to make my dreams a reality.
