Some people think “Life Coach; I’m helping people get it together.” When I think about it; it’s about what kind of people do I want to help get it together. There are so many people with disabilities that just want to go out in the world and live life like most able bodied people do. I have worked with an individual that has a disability for 16 years. He was able to show his abilities rather than his disability. I was able help him with his everyday life including the job he currently works at and he is great at it. Being with him has given me a greater respect in how I view people with disabilities. The circle of people I was around made me think about how can I support an individual wanting to be successful. I think about changing the mind set of not only people with disabilities but the communities and work place. This process has to start with the people that have disabilities, making them believe and and know their worth. Giving them the confidence to go out and be a part of their communities and wanting to work at jobs that are careers; not workshops or adult day cares. How it changes the world? It gives people who are able bodied a different perspective and no hesitation to hire or include someone with a disability. People with disabilities make a difference and I learned that first hand by being with the gentleman I worked with all those years. He inspires me every day I know if he can do it then so can so many others all they need is a person that believes in them and teaches them to believe in themselves. All people are important and anyone that can add to the world and how it works is worth giving the extra effort to make it happen.
