If I could earn a living do what I loved, I would be spending just about all day with my nose inches from a computer monitor or whatever current experiment was running. The time spent in front of the computer would be spent designing and redesigning the fission reactor that I would be pouring my soul into. Nuclear power has been a hobby of mine since as long as I can remember. Back when tours of reactors used to be possible I visited everyone that I could. Imagine, power without pollution, it blew my little kid mind. It still blows my mind. It is possible to squeeze more power out of the current generation I reactors that are in service, but the gen IV and V that are available only on paper can generate enough power out of thorium to power the United States completely without importing a thing. The Thorium Energy Alliance estimates our thorium reserves to be able to power the U.S. at our current levels for 10,000 years. The only problem is the lack of physicists able to develop and maintain such reactors. That is where I want to change the world. I want to keep the lights on.
