Keep Calm and Debate On
“You’re so melodramatic,” “Why do you ask so many questions,” all phrases I’ve been asked time and time again. Well, I say, what’s wrong with a little drama in your life? Why is expressing passionate feelings frowned upon so often? If I could live off of expressing myself and others in argument I would. Debate, in my opinion, is one of the most enjoyable of pastimes. Sadly, I often feel that society is both afraid and confident when it comes to discussing true feelings, opinions, and their own ignorance, because whenever the chance to elaborate presents itself, the speaker seems to stop at and invisible line they have subconsciously drawn.
However, that is a mindset that I never wish to condone. If there were more careers that involved debate and open discussion that sought out answers instead of winners, and arguments without boundaries, the world might stand a chance. Because knowledge is power and ignorance is impotence, and it seems like society would rather settle for lackluster intelligence and weakness. I would love to take that uncertainty and crush it with questions and conversation to get to the bottom of things and expand the world’s mental horizon. I believe the world could use someone who is willing to seek out answers, or discuss the things that no one else will, and take the time to dig deeper and find the root to a bigger problem.
