“Everybody stand up and shake off your sleepy Saturday night pizza and video games blues! This is Super Kids Church and we are going to worship as loud and crazy as super kids can!” There is an overflowing joy that floods me with adrenaline and passion every Saturday night and Sunday morning. During these periods, I am transformed from 22 year old friendly, vegetarian, full-time working Amber to highly energized, creative, boisterous Sunday school teacher Sister Amber. I love being around children and seeing them run up to me with big smiles and hugs fills me with an emotion that is hard to explain to anyone without sounding sappy!
Not only do the kids make me enthusiastic but the actual position is rewardingly fun. Preparing for class makes my every day a little less mundane as I am constantly thinking of the best game to play, the most interesting object lesson, and the “coolest” moves to the praise songs we worship to. Getting to know each individual kid gives me an opportunity to pray for their needs better. I’m forever learning a great deal from them also. These “Sunday schoolers” teach me that everyone is unique and need treated differently with only one need in common: love. I wish I could make my livelihood through teaching Sunday school but if I never am, I will continually do my best to be the role model of love, attention and acceptance that every child in this world needs and deserves.
