From a young age on we are told that we have the ability to be anything we want. By the time we reach high school, however, we are told we must consider more “realistic” and “serious” professions if we wish to succeed in our current society. If I could set aside these social restrictions I would like to combine my two passions; basketball and travel. Growing up, basketball was my life. It taught me what it meant to be a both a teammate and a competitor, it provided an opportunity for me to explore my leadership skills, but most importantly perhaps, playing basketball gave me confidence in myself. As a child I believe it is vitally important to find something that makes you feel confident in yourself. That is why I would like to travel the world, coaching the sport. Having a good coach can mean everything in the world to a child. When I first began playing basketball in 3rd grade, I completely idolized the high school girl’s basketball team and dreamed of the day I could get to play on their team. They made me want to be the best player I could be. Now I feel it is my turn to return that favor and inspire younger girls to follow their passion and become the best basketball player they can be. Basketball has had a huge impact on my life, and I think it can have the same positive impact on girls around the world.
