If I could earn a living at anything it would be supporting persons with disabilities. More specifically, I would love assisting those with disables in assisting with learning life skills. Being independent is an important thing for anyone whether they have a disability or not. Being able to go to the store, to work, to the moves, might be things that some of us take for granted, but for some people with disabilities, it can be a major task. I currently work with persons teaching life skills. I am assisting my new client with learning how to take public transportation. He is a recent high school graduate who occasionally uses a wheelchair. He has limited mobility; he can walk on his own, however he has difficulty when going long distances. He wants the confidence to be on his own. Our goal is to provide skills that would make him comfortable in using the bus or dial a ride on his own. This would give him the independence he wants to be able to meet friends at a restaurant or a movie without relying on his parents. This would also enable him to have the confidence he needs/wants to be able to attend college. This is a passion that I have and enjoy assisting a person in living out his/her dream of independence. If I could do anything, it would be giving the gift of independence. This would change how people view those with disabilities.
