If I could earn a living doing what I love most, it would be the job of investing in the lives of children in order that they would bring about a change for the betterment of the community and the world. This is the job of a teacher. I see teaching as an opportunity to be directly involved in the minds, hearts, and futures of the upcoming generation. In addition to teaching the subject matter, it is the teacher’s privilege and responsibility to be a model of a good citizen, a responsible worker, a moral example, and a loving authority. Teachers also help to shape the worldviews of the students. The students’ view on the world and on themselves will determine the direction that they take in life and who they will live their lives for. What a weighty responsibility! What a rewarding opportunity! I want to teach my students music. Music gives the students an opportunity to experience the concepts they are learning in math, physics, social studies, and even literature. It takes these ideas learned for the development of the intellectual mind and goes beyond to develop the whole person: the senses, the imagination, the emotions, and the soul. In studying music we gain a deeper appreciation for beauty and experience a fullness of life unparalleled to any other field of study, and we help the students develop a keen understanding of discipline and self-worth. I want to be a part of it!
