Mental health in this world is becoming a great problem in this world. I would use my profession, becoming a psychologist, to help create an organization to help those in the world that cannot afford proper care. For instance, the single mother with two children, suffering from depression, but cannot afford to go to a psychologist because she’s trying to make ends meet supporting her kids and does not have insurance.
Another example, the lonesome teenager, coping with generalized anxiety. I would try to alter his thinking and behavioral patterns and reform his feelings to help him change his reactions to stress.
Although just examples, starting this organization would benefit many because this would be an organization in which anyone can come to with a financial incapability, or a simple need to confide in someone. You don’t know how little you matter until you’re all alone. Kick starting this, will make them feel they aren’t alone anymore and that myself and other practitioners will always be there.
Conducting studies and research can aid in understanding and recognizing disorders worldwide. There are a lot of questions still imposed on many disorders and getting a further understanding on this can help many people.
Going to school and getting a degree for helping people in a way is ideal. But to change the world while doing it is worthwhile.
