If I could have any job doing what I love the most it would be with out a doubt, coaching youth athletes. Even though this wouldn’t change the world on a global stage I believe it could help change a community and some young men or women’s lives. Growing up playing basketball I always noticed that it seemed liked dedicated athletes that started playing sports at a young age, always seemed to do better in school, helped their school and community more, and are more likely to attend a secondary type education whether that be a university, a tech school, or a community college.
I got to work with youth athletes refereeing basketball for the Boys and Girls Club, and got to work and teach kids swim lessons at one of my current employer the Birch Bay Village Community Club Inc. I say both experiences were just great experiences and there were times I really felt I had an impact on these kids, whether it was getting a kid the confidence to swim, or teaching a kid something in basketball during a break in play.
I know coaching youth athletes isn’t going to make me famous but I believe it will truly help kids out and can help a community and if I can better the lives of a few kids that’s what would really matter to me. And that why being a youth coach would be my dream career.
