When we are grade school children, we are often asked, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” As children it is so simple for us to be anything in our imagination. When I was younger, my dream was to become a teacher. That dream quickly faded as I “grew up” per say. Reality hit, and of course, life was a little more difficult as an adult, then as a child. I grew a passion for something else; something a bit more challenging in mind. I knew I wanted to help people, but I had bills to pay. Financially, it is still difficult; and I need help.
When the opportunity to return to school arose, I was faced with that same question, “What do I want to be when I grow up?” Only this time, it was me asking myself, and I was already an adult with two children. It came to no surprise to anyone but myself, that I would want to become a nurse. To be a “hero” for those who need one.
I have always wanted to help others. This is the most practical way to do so for me. To think of the possibilities of making a difference in lives everywhere. All it takes is one person to thank me for my hard work in helping them, even if only to feel better for that moment; to me, that is changing the world. Having the world at my fingertips, one person at a time.
