My dream is to open a family/child therapy practice in my home. I am limited by a severe degenerative spine disease but work part-time at Sullivan Preschool. I have always been interested in psychology and working at my job I have seen so many children or families that could use someone to talk to. I have already started taking steps towards my dream by attending Parkland College through online classes and am one course away from my AAS in psychology. I have excelled in my choice of education despite many obstacles such as losing my uncle (who encouraged me to follow my dream) a year after I started attending Parkland College, taking care of a grandma who fought breast cancer for 2 years until she lost her battle a year after my uncle’s passing, followed by my mom being diagnosed with endometrium cancer stage 4b. My mom became emotionally dependent on me during this time causing me to take a year off. I would be enrolled now but financial aid says it has taken me too long to get my degree(appealing it). I really want to make a difference in the world and believe clinical psychology is it. I want to pursue this dream as far as I can and hope that one day I can obtain my Doctrine in psychology. I have already talked to University of Illinois to see if it would be an option to transfer there after I graduate to finish out my degrees.
