I am a fan-girl at heart. I read fan fiction, I fan-girl over couples in my favorite books. If I could bring together two of the things I love most, being a nerd, and being a feminist as a living, I would be a speaker on the sexism in the nerd/geek community. There’s so much sexism in the community, anything between calling fan-girls the worst part of the culture, complaining that all the girls/women cosplaying at conventions are doing it for attention, and just the overall rejection of women as nerds. I would bring awareness to this problem, and in turn, I would make life a lot safer and calmer for a lot of women and girls in the community. I would be able to write out to the nerd community, and hold my own talks at conventions, and people would come and women would feel safer, and maybe people would actually think about what they say and realize how wrong it is.There would be less harassment and snide comments. It would bring me personal joy to know I could bring these things to light in the feminist community, and receiving help on stopping the harassment.
