I love to educate! My dream is to help others help themselves. So many times patients are left confused as to what their diagnosis is and what they can do about it. I have an ability to make seemingly complex concepts simple. I do this now and want to continue this by becoming a nurse. Doctors don’t volunteer information most of the time so I want to encourage people to ask questions and be proactive about their health and well-being. Explaining medications, self-care, what they can do to bring down their blood sugar or cholesterol, and getting caregivers involved when necessary are just a few ways of empowering someone. I would also write things down for patients. When under stress it can be overwhelming to take in all this new information. Not only would I give suggestions, but the “WHY” of it all, which encourages compliance. Telling someone what they can do and telling them why, can make all the difference in treatment. Health fairs are another way I would educate the public so they can share that information with loved ones as well.
