The thing I love most is the very planet we walk on. The birds, snakes, insects, microorganisms that make up what we call an “ecosystem”. The work I want to do involves making sure those ecosystems stay in balance by curbing the massive amounts of chemical waste that spills into our waterways and into the very air we breathe. Long term changes need to be made to ensure that our natural resources are still here for our children and grandchildren to utilize. My first goal is to pay off a debt to an old university from ten years ago and apply to a university here in Tennessee. My second goal would be to complete my degree in ecology, and go to work for the State of Tennessee, making sure our natural resources are protected and our ecosystems are kept functioning. I’m not afraid to put on waders and slog through a swamp to find the source of a chemical spill. I enjoy going off the beaten path to find the hidden treasures that nature has for us; I’d like to share that with the world. Pollution in one area can have long term effects on the entire world, as Chernobyl, Fukishima, and the 2010 Deepwater Horizon spill have shown. My goal is to make the world a healthier place for all to enjoy. Without our delicately balanced ecosystems, our planet will not function. I intend to keep us going for many years to come through creative and innovative solutions.
