A wise person once said, “Dance is the window to the soul” and that person was completely correct. Dance provides great emotional relief and allows a person to communicate using more than words. If I could earn a living doing anything it would be teaching dance. In my short 21 years I have experienced lots of hardships including sexual assault, death, health issues, etc. But in those short 21 years I found a love that is greater than I felt before. I learned how to tell stories without uttering one single word. I learned how to express my sadness without shedding a tear. I learned how to release everything that was hurting me inside. I want to help other girls discover that they too have that same gift. I am currently a Dance Theatre major at Barry University where I am a senior. Upon graduation, I would like to travel to India, Africa, or Brazil and volunteer to teach dance classes. I want most to help those girls who come from poor backgrounds but have the passion to dance. I want to help to express themselves through movement. To me this psychology through dance. I want nothing more than to know that I helped a young girl to express herself. Whether it be through large syncopated movements to just simple smiles and hand gestures. I simply want to help another girl excel in her passion for dance, not matter what form.
