I have the incredible fortune of going to school for what I love, which is dance. Acquiring a degree in dance is certainly risky. The performing arts world has never been a promising nor stable one. But passion is what keeps me doing what I do. I see being a professional dancer as something more than living paycheck to paycheck. Self-expression and creation is a gift to share, and that alone is enough earn to keep me going. Dancers do not get enough recognition for what we do. From the extreme physicality of it to the rigorous, almost uncountable “work day” hours, our job will never be a 9 to 5-type mentality. And I love that. The world needs more artists. We are a society of fast paced businessmen who think they rule the world when it’s really just Wall Street. Performers, artists, musicians, writers, creators, and free thinkers will continue to do what we love as long as we gain support. By earning a degree in dance and becoming a professional, my goal is to make art just as important. My goal is to be one more dancer that stands her ground for those aspiring to do the same.
