I soon will be earning a living doing what I love most, caring for patients as a registered nurse. It is hard to imagine a career that changes the world more than a career in healthcare. I can touch the lives of others, sometimes in their darkest of days. I can be a soft hand to hold in times of fear, comfort when they are in pain, a voice of compassion and understanding when despair and grief take hold. I can reassure people of their self worth when humility has crippled them. I had a nursing teacher tell me once; “It is the greatest of blessings to be present when people come in to this world, and when people leave it” and no truer words have ever been spoken. I want to leave this world better for me having lived in it and I want to touch the hearts of as many people as I can. I want to inspire people, that they too have the strength to overcome and that they are valuable beyond measure. I hope to change the world for the better one patient at a time.
