When I was younger I volunteered at the VA Medical Center in Jackson, MS where I worked in the mailroom. I’ve often been asked “Why the mailroom?” Well no other place is more connected throughout the hospital than the mailroom. My job was to deliver mail to all the departments and after my first experience I knew that I was meant to work in the hospital and I decided at that moment that I would spend the rest of my volunteer experience learning about every job in the hospital in an effort to find my potential career. I pondered upon which job interested me the most and although becoming a doctor would seem to be the obvious choice but I wanted more. One day I noticed the long lines for appointments and just how exhausted all the doctors and nurses were and I wondered why. It was because the hospital was severely understaffed. How do you expect to help people with no one to work? What is being done to solve these major issues? I asked these questions to myself and in that moment I made it my goal to become the CEO/Director of a hospital to ensure that this never happens again. I have a desire for people and I cannot sit back and watch, as people, especially those who have served this country, have to suffer in this manner. It is by dream and goal to change healthcare for the entire world.
