The thing I love more than anything else in this world is helping people. As cliché as it sounds, my life long goal has been to help people and make them feel good about themselves. I think that powerful things happen when you empower someone with a feeling of self-worth and success. So much of what we see in the media is negative and dispiriting; it is no wonder why people seek out medical professionals for anti-anxiety and anti-depressant medications.
My career goal is to become a physician with a focus on urban health. In my opinion, there are huge disparities in healthcare in terms of ethnicity, religious background, and social/economic status and income. Growing up on Medicaid insurance I witnessed firsthand how income and social status affects healthcare. As a child, I went to an office that didn’t take my insurance and they actually asked me to leave the office. I was devastated and felt totally and utterly worthless.
The first step is to be accepted into medical school. I have been accepted into a partnership program between Cleveland State University and NEOMED. Next is to complete the six years of education and residency. The final step is to open a practice. I want to be part of the change and part of the difference and I believe I can do that one person at a time. As Dr. Seuss said “To the world you may be one person, but to one person you may be the world.”
