“You can change the World.” We hear this phrase echoed everywhere. It is popular because it harmonizes with the hearts of many. Nobody wants to feel hurt, nobody likes pain, and nobody thrives on disappointment, nobody that is healthy anyway. This is because humans are built with a fundamental capacity to love. To love and to be loved is the key to happiness. Some think that to spread love they must feed millions of poor people overseas. Some think that they must become missionaries to show love. While these are certainly great ideals, I believe that the best way of changing the world is by being the positive change factor in one’s own circle of influence. Everybody grows up in a sphere of people that they know and interact with on a daily basis. One thing that I enjoy to do now is gardening. I feel that just in that hobby alone there are tons of opportunities whereby I can be a help to society. The first thing I would do is donate fresh produce to shelters. Then I would educate others on the benefits of outdoor gardening and eating fresh fruits and vegetables. This in turn would provide people with greater health, and greater health means greater happiness. With this new-found happiness the people I teach might go and spread what they’ve learned about gardening to others and thus, by one hobby that I enjoy, I may impact many others to happiness and thereby impact the world.
