My dream has always been to open up a no-kill cat shelter. I always see stray cats that are mangy and hurt, or they have dozens of litters of kittens and it hurts me to see these beautiful animals be abused, neglected and left to fend for themselves. My shelter would be different from a normal animal shelter because I would not have cages. I would have large rooms with cat trees, high rise walk tracks and cubbies, and plenty of vegetation and fresh air. I feel these attributes would be the most beneficial for the cats in my care. They would be happy, well fed and they would learn to be social by interacting with the other animals.
My first goal in attaining my cat shelter would be to sit down with a financial advisor and write out my business plan. It would describe how, when, what and why I was doing this so the loan officers would understand my dream and provide me with the start-up loan money. Next, I would find my dream location. It would be a large, happy building that would be centrally located but not near any main roadways. I would next find volunteers and my staff to help construct the inner workings of my shelter. Finally, we would have a grand opening and work with other animal shelters and take sick or socially awkward cats and work with them to make sure they can one day be placed in a forever home.
I would always be looking for funding, volunteers and donations to make sure my no-kill cat shelter could stay open for business and to save and protect as many animals as possible.
