The only time people race to the hospital with a huge smile on their face is for the birth of a child. If I could make a living by helping parents welcome their precious children into the world it would be life changing. Being an obstetrician has been a goal of mine since the birth of my baby brother. That field allows the doctor to build a lifetime connection with your patient. During the start of pregnancy they can help by getting the patients body ready for the 9 months ahead. During pregnancy the doctor helps build a bond between the mother and child by protecting the health of both. During childbirth the obstetrician ensures that the baby is healthy and the mother is ready to care for it. After childbirth the postpartum period is critical in maintaining the health of the mother. This relationship can be for a lifetime as the mother has more children and builds her family. Even if the child is placed for adoption the obstetrician will still have to see the mother and ensure her health. These lifelong relationships built in this field can be world changing in that children and mothers can be taken care of by a familiar face and caring hand. My goal to become an obstetrician will come at no easy cost. But with hard work and dedication in school, one day it will pay off and allow me to change the world one childbirth at a time.
