If I could earn a living doing what I love most, I would spend my life empowering young women. Not long ago, I read an article revealing the high percentage of African-American children born to unwed mothers, as well as the numerous and tragic ways in which children are ultimately affected in father-less homes. According to Child-ourinvestment.org, over 70% of youth that are rapists, suicidal, homeless, imprisoned, and are high school drop outs come from fatherless homes. You wonder what that has to do with my desire to empower young women. Well, today I see a generation of young women and men buying into the lie that “love doesn’t cost a thing”. Cheap sex is becoming contemporary and I fear it is us women allowing it and then reaping the sad consequences. So, I dream … of sparking a movement titled “Already Taken” to challenge and inspire women to become more in charge of how their relationships transpire. I utterly believe then our world will see, on average, more fruitful relationships, more marrying going on and fewer fatherless homes. My primary goal is to begin the impact in my own backyard by pouring edifying words into young women at my home church. Furthermore, I’d utilize social media to span the message; I’m talking hash tags (#AlreadyTaken) across the globe! And lastly, my long-term goal is to carry the movement into a unique T-shirt and apparel line that will continue to empower young women, plant seeds, and better our society.
