I plan to become an elementary teacher. However, I don’t want to be just another teacher. I want my students to leave my class confident in their abilities. I’ve had experience with very good teachers and a few bad ones throughout my school years. I plan to use those experiences to become a teacher who makes a difference in my student’s lives. I know how it feels to have a teacher who believes in you and one who doesn’t. I feel that teachers really do help determine the success of students. I realize that everyone learns differently, and I want to take the time to learn what works for each student. I plan to bring out the best in each one of them. My experience with Odyssey of the Mind creative problem solving competitions has helped equip me with the knowledge needed to work as a team while solving problems. I’ve learned how important team work is, and the leader can help create the atmosphere for good team work. I believe an effective leader builds relationships by listening well, respecting others and setting a good example. These are all traits that I strive to demonstrate. I think they will make me an effective teacher who really cares about my students.
I am currently a sophomore at Ouachita Baptist University. I am double majoring in elementary education and kinesiology. I also play softball for the Lady Tigers. I have very good time management skills which have helped me maintain a 3.8 gpa while missing class quite often for softball. These skills will help me in teaching as well. My plan is for children to leave my class confident in their abilities, knowing they can achieve anything they set their mind to.
