I would love to have my own women’s shelter. I wouldn’t have strict criteria upon entry. Once allowed to stay, you would be required to complete certain classes and earn points to help you with the things you may need once you were to be able to get on your own. I would have real life classes that would aid in their success. I would have classes such as how to balance a check book, how to buy groceries on a budget, how to be a successful parent, how to write resumes and interview. I would make sure that every night the women would all come together and have dinner. I would want it to feel more like a family than a mere shelter. I would want them to learn the value of their children, their self-worth and to love others. I think too often in this world we are taught to love self and our household only. I would love to have an environment where people could heal from whatever led them to the shelter. I would also hope that they would grow as well while there. I know that far too many women in the United States are abused. There are also those that were severely neglected as a child and this program would teach them to see themselves as the beautiful women they are and not what they have been told by society that they are.
