It’s sad to say that many Americans, and many people across the globe, wake up each morning dreading the day ahead of them. I vow to never have a career that I’m not excited to wake up for each and every day, but in order for this to happen, I must have a job that I love- a job that can change the world. My dream career would be one that allows me to travel the world impacting the lives of others. Specifically, I want to go into some sort of social service where I can help developing nations become more developed through education, civil rights, and the development of basic needs, such as a clean water source or a place to call home. There’s a long road ahead of me before I will have this career, but I’m doing things now and setting goals for the future that will lead me in the right direction. I have decided on double majoring in International Studies and Social Work so I can gain the necessary knowledge needed to be successful in my future. I have also already participated in study abroad opportunities to see a world broader than my own. In addition, I have set the following goals to help me reach my dream and make a difference in the world. The first is to take on more study abroad opportunities so I can see different areas of the world and what issues they are faced with. Another goal is in regards to my post education plans. I am hoping to be accepted into the Peace Corps so I can begin helping others and get my foot in the door towards the right direction. Lastly, I aim to keep an open mind. By this I mean that although I want to help others, I need to acknowledge their cultural norms so that when helping them, I am not doing anything to offend their way of life. I want to be able to make a difference in this world, even if it is only noticed by a small village. All it takes is a helping hand to start to make that impact.
