Audrey Hepburn once said “As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands, one for helping yourself, the other for helping others.” These words have guided me to pursue my life dream of helping others. I am currently dual majoring in psychology and philosophy at Thiel College with the intent of becoming a counselor. Counselors play a special part in this world. They help people in three of the simplest, yet most meaningful ways. Listening: everyone needs and deserves to be heard. We all have a story and we each deserve to have someone listen to it. Challenging: sometimes we find ourselves in a rut. We continue to do the same thing over and over and have no idea why we continue to feel bad about our situations. Counselors offer helpful challenges and new perspectives to discover a solution. Guidance: counselors guide us to the paths of all three health aspects; physical, spiritual, and mental. They help us to reach the best us we can be. When we fall down, counselors are thee to give you the nudge to stand back up. That is why I want to be a counselor. I aspire to be an instrumental tool to others struggling. I dream of lifting others up and filling the world with confidence, perseverance, and love. I dream of completing my MA in counseling and opening my own private practice. I dream of helping others. This scholarship would help me to help others.
