It is a forbidden love, the one I share with fresh clay and an open workspace. Couple it with a few hours to myself and a Bob Marley Greatest Hits CD and we have an all-out war between my heart and my mind. Sculpting what seems to be just a shapeless lump of matter into a synapse jump-starter has impassioned me since high school and continues to consume my thoughts even now, some years later. It is a tryst of which is seen in artists throughout time, Bernini, Michelangelo, Brancusi.
As art is wont to do, it changes the world in subtle and beautiful ways. Starting in the mind, provoking a thought here, changing a belief there, and ends in actions through those shared thoughts and beliefs. I would love nothing more than to connect people and make subtle, beautiful changes in the world in that way. Take the forbidden love I share with my clay and make it a universal love with my thoughts. Take a few hours to myself and make ripples in social thought for countless years.
