My name is Alex Childs. If I could earn a living doing what I love most, it would be helping people with special needs.
Over the last few years I have started to interact and develop friendships with people with special needs, especially those with Down syndrome. I have realized that going into the medical field with the goal of working with these people is what I want to do with my life. I have had experience working with my friends with Down syndrome both while lifeguarding at the pool and interacting with them at school. For two years I have volunteered at a special needs camp in Missouri for a week per summer working one on one with a boy with Down syndrome. This experience really convinced me that my true passion was working with these kids. The camp was a lot of hard work, but I realized that people with special needs have the ability to put a smile on anybody’s face- no matter how good or bad that person’s day is going.
I believe that I can change the world by helping these very unique people to perform at the highest level possible socially and mentally. People with special needs are often some of the hardest workers when given the opportunity for employment. Hopefully with my help, many businesses will receive workers who are willing to do anything they can to the best of their abilities. I am looking forward to my future!
