The dream of becoming a teacher came late in my high school career. I never thought I would be willing to spend my professional career in a place that I dreaded going to so badly, but I do. After spending a year in college working towards my goal of becoming a special education teacher, I have realized I love the thought of being able to work anywhere in the world and working with young children. Seeing the eyes of children when they learn something new gives you a feeling that cannot compare to any other. It’s almost like watching your own child making progress. Teachers change the world one lesson at a time and I, honestly, cannot wait to start my journey as an early childhood special education teacher.
After I graduate college, my initial goal is to open my own preschool for special needs children. Before opening my own program, I plan on working in a small school corporation to gain experience. I believe opening my own preschool would change the world because it will give me the opportunity to give children the help and support they need in their early years of education. Even if my preschool does not change the world as a whole, I believe it will change the world for my students. Each one will be given opportunities and support they may never receive at a preschool with “normal” students. I want to give special needs students a positive self-confidence from the start of their education.
