I believe poetry and other art forms can change the world because they make people feel something. The problem is, artists don’t usually rake in large amounts of money; hence the term “starving artist.” So if I could earn a living doing what I love, from creating art, I would do it in a heartbeat. The Dead Poets Society had it right when they said “medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for.” I don’t think people should merely sustain life; they should have something that causes them to be passionate about living! They should have art that inspires them to live life to the fullest. After all, “the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse.” My verse would include paintings that make people think, music that makes people believe, and poetry that makes people feel. Simply because I don’t want people to just be alive, I want them to live.
