I find that one of the most troubling things about modern society is that we are knowingly corroding our planet with waste and pollution and continue to do so without a second thought. For most people, it is no surprise that the rate at which we consume energy today is too much for the environment to sustain: Millions of cars releasing toxic fumes into the atmosphere are driven every day, and homes and business buildings constantly rely on energy produced by burning coal or gas to power lights and other common electronics. Unfortunately, it’s not practical to tell everyone to stop consuming energy and revert back to an 18th century lifestyle. If we are to continue living the way we are now, what we need most is a sustainable way to produce energy.
What I want to do most for this planet is provide it with affordable clean energy, and I believe that there is plenty already existing in the natural environment. I want to research and improve current solar, wind, and water sources to reduce energy loss during conversion, as well as explore other possible sources such as algae biofuel. I want to find a way to make these sources convenient and practical for common households to use, so that they can be utilized more than they are now and reduce our dependence on current polluting sources.
