In our society, “earning a living” is associated with what you do that makes money – a job that helps you in earning an income that keeps you alive. But if you’re working somewhere doing something that you absolutely abhor, challenges you in no way, and that you dream of abandoning every day – is that living?
What makes me live is creating – painting, drawing, sketching, writing, imagining.
In order to make my journey worth wild, my “living” must include creating something new on a regular basis. The routine of a regular office, retail, customer service, or any job that is accompanied with excessive corporate power discourages me. Too often have I found myself in positions under big corporations degraded and devalued. I have vowed that I would secure myself in an environment that challenges me and that I leave feeling accomplished.
I yearn to be financially stable using my craft. Presently, I paint murals, make comics, and help an artist with her art. I receive income from these projects with pride and walk away feeling successful– feeling alive. Currently, I still require a full time job to sustain myself as I live on my own.
I am on my way toward becoming self employed and have been building a client base for my mural painting, while in the process of establishing painting classes. I hope to be free of my corporate job within the next year, not only changing my world but showing others how to change theirs as well.
