I have always wanted to be a part of the healthcare field since I was little. When I was 13, I not only helped my sister during her labor but, witnessed my first nephew being born into this world. It was then that I knew what I wanted to do. I had to be apart of this! I wanted to be a nurse midwife. Since then I have volunteered as a Douala, and helped 9 other families bring precious life into this world. Every time I took part in these occasions, it always left me feeling over joyed, and honored to be a part of such a miraculous event. It also just reaffirmed that this is what I want to do with my life, and that I love doing it!

While pregnancy is a life changing event in itself, it gives me such pleasure to know that I can help families bring life into this world in a safe and loving environment, based on holistic techniques and practices, that aren’t usually common by regular RN’s in obstetrics. I hope that people will become more knowledgeable about what midwives actually do, and realize that their birthing experience doesn’t have to be as scary, and traumatic as people make it seem.
This is not just a career to me, it is a life long dream. Please help me make my dreams become a reality! I am humbled by asking for your help, but will be eternally grateful. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Amatullah Al-Amin
