Fortunately, the degree I am going for is what I love doing. I am getting my Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications with a focus on Digital Filmmaking. Whether it is being a grip, gaffer, assistant camera, or especially sound, being on set helping create something is where I love to be. Working on a film crew does not have the same impact as a doctor or a veterinarian or a politician, it does provide an escape for people. Even when times are financially difficult, people still flock to the theaters. For about two hours, they are able to immerse themselves in another world and forget their troubles. Also, films have the ability to inform and change views.
My first goal is to take as many classes related to filmmaking as I can. Learning about different areas lets you find exactly what you want to do, and it helps you understand what each department’s job entails. My second goal is to work on as many projects as I can. This provides experience and builds connections that will help later on when trying to find a job.
