Ever since I was young, I have had a passion for telling stories. When I was young, I drew them. Now that I’m older, I’ve turned to the world of literature. My dream would be to make a living writing stories, the type of story that stays with a person, changing the way they think. Seeing a published book with my name on it would be one of the happiest moments in my life.
People are creatures that live off of stories. We tell stories to our colleagues to impress them, to entertain them, to help them understand who we are. A well spun tale can draw out strong emotions, whether joyful or morose, and through this experience, the story can change us. This is the kind of story I would love to write, because these are the types of stories that stay with people. Authors like C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, and J.K. Rowling are examples of authors whose stories are still effecting our culture today. I am a firm believer in the power of a story well told.
While I am mostly occupied as a full time student, I have specific goals for pursuing this dream. Short term, I take time each day to brainstorm, outline, or plan a story I am currently working on. I have also begun taking steps into researching the process of becoming published. In the future, I hope to attend graduate school to pursue a Master’s of English.
